This album is #01 of the Noise Vaults collection I'm starting. I will keep going and going until either I'm done with music or I die. I have decided to start playing a lot of guitar again, just adding piano roll synth programming where needed for ambience, sound effects, mood setting, or in layers that go with the melody. Sometimes I won't even use the synth program Orion at all. Most of the original tracks were from 2001. This was from the beginning era after MAKINA where I physically plugged my guitar in and played stuff from my high school band I wrote but was never used. I changed all the genres from the grunge metal they originally were. I was always wanting to try Industrial but couldn't play multiple instruments at the same time nor did I know a keyboardist. Anyways, I will still do synth music. If not for myself then for soundtracks, any time I make 'em for Buckshot Software, or if any other company I commission for requests synth.
Here is the rundown, track-by-track: 01 "Sweet Sombriety" this track was made this year with the purpose of going with the rest of these tracks. The meaning of the track title is just comfortable depression, but with the throwback cover and cheezy texts seems more creepy than intended, when its intent was to be a dark mood. Since these tracks were remade in 2001 from the 90's, the moods changed to some of them though. Shit got catchy! 02 "Angel With Horns" the original was in 2001, this version had a few layers and instruments added two years back then was finally finished just before I put this album on bandcamp. The original had lyrics and the track took over 2 months with over 150 layers in its source files. I had since been cut in half as I didn't want lyrics in these tracks, and didn't like the lyrics or vocals to begin with. 03 "Cornua" this piano roll piece is from the end of Angel With Horns. This is a direct continuation of the track to welcome to the next. I used piano roll so I could add layers and so it sounded perfect like a machine did it. In the previous track it was all played by hand. 04 "Anti" In the 90s when these were to be played by my band Noose, this track was called Antieverything. Believe it or not, the actual guitar I put to this was originally played even faster. I do have another version of it to come later on a remix album possibly to be called "Mutations 1" or "Sombre Mutations" 05 "The Nihil" this is a continuation of "Anti" that is pure synth with just a little bit of guitar. Its like a shorter sequel to keep it going a little bit, but also stand alone as its own song. I really like the vibe of it all the way through. It has mostly synth this time, and does stand out seperately from the previous track. 06 "Porcupine" I honestly forget the original title to this one, but the lyrics in 2001 were just a poem about a bullied being that is never left alone, snaps, and fights back, hence the title. 07 "Wasps" sounds like someone took a track derived from the sound of both the Nine Inch Nails singles "March of the Pigs" and "Closer to God". It ends in swarming bees. That beat later on though... 08 "Golden" This is hard to play on the guitar to me now, especially this fast. I was going to do a raw version of it that has no cuts in the recording layers. It starts out after the intro melody slightly like Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box" but is hopefully a lot different about the third chord in. It was all played with one hand originally, and I'd never hit stop and add a new part with different settings. Just the same ole' boring guitar. When I can practice it just right, however, it will be on one of my upcoming free/"name your price" remix albums. 09 "Golden, Extension" is just Golden with the parts rearranged and more catchy stuff like more chopped up drum layers added 10 "Sycamore/1993" I found this and the tape recording at the end on a tape from 1993 that had both songs. The tape excerpt was left as is in the same dirty quality from said cassette. The first was ran through the "new process" I ran all the others through, and the melody brought back sweet memories. It also matches with the cover's autumn theme a little. 11 "Entity" was an outtake from the same period when I did all the other tracks. It has a cool feel to it it was just too basic for my taste at the time to go with something I was trying to prove myself with. Actually now that I think about it, it was made for a friend who is no longer that wanted me to do a metal rap group backing track. Their rap duo was to be called "Entity" of course. 12 "Whiplash" was the other track. It was also made for Entity, a group that never existed, as neither did my band. 13 "Distant Glow+" The plus marks the appendage. This track has a lot of added synth and drum to make it less boring, even though it was meant to be slow and sombre. The appendage is all the synth parts and drum parts with the original stuff added in later with more drums. 14 "Sweet Eulogy" I made this on-the-fly to end the album. I freaking loved it! This is the first draft of the redux album Maladaptive Humanoid, released November 1st, 2021. I will have a 2nd draft later, and when I do I will just replace the album on bandcamp and the cover will have the second date too. I feel as if I jumped the gun on this one and released it early. It may end up fine as-is but who knows, I may get bored someday. If I do not end up having a second draft, I'll just save the crazy shit for a remix album with the other first four albums that I have planned. Anyways my wife painted this cover on a 3" x 3" miniature canvas I found at walmart for $1.29 and it took her no time at all but ended up looking pretty neat and fitting to the title. She actually made this before I made the title.
The track-by-track rundown goes as follows: 01 "Somewhere Else" is a simple intro with a weird arrangement for a weird album. It's not really all that eerie or anything unless you count the alien winds in the beginning. It's just a couple simple synth lines and simple guitar line with some minimal drums. I do like it though. I don't know why but I'm glad to hear it when I pop this in every now and again 02 "The Storm" was from 2003 and a redo of the same track from 2001. The first one sounded JUST LIKE tool, so I redid it. I think oddly enough with this being just a random track back in the day that its the best thing on here. That's just my opinion though. 03 "Silt" is a high note intro to Black Melody 2018. I recorded it the same day in 2018 04 "Black Melody 2018" is a remake of my Pitch Black Melody from 2001, but I actually put the original intro from the 90's back in that I have no clue why I took out. 05 "Beautesque" was an orion-only track in 2019 that didn't really go on anything. I could have had it as an interlude on the next big Absynthium album that probably won't happen but won't now 06 "Asshole" was made in 2001 and brand new. Not a 90's rehash, none of that. It's primitive I think, maybe not, but it's definitely very industrial. I love the keyboard parts towards the end. Check those out if you will. 07 "Manipulation" had lyrics in 2003, and was made in 2001. This is the 2001 version. The original from the 90's was WAY faster but I like it this way better. I may have the 90's version rehash on one of the remix albums in the future with some unique stuff added. 08 "Death's Vanity" aka "The Picture of Dorianna Gray" was another synth/orion track from 2019 I didn't use for anything. It was weird enough to fit here 09 "Black Melody - Synth Version 2016" is just what it says, and nothing more 10 & 11 "Frozen Time" and "Interdimensional" once had different names, but when I found these tracks they were mixed up with vocal tracks numbered 01-06.mp3 and I had no clue. I gave them these names because they seemed sci-fi enough to fit. They were done with Will Henry, the same guy from No Limits Blackjack voiceovers, Sin Harvest voiceovers, and the full NSFW Will and Jerry album I may or may not include on this blog sometime soon at least. 12 "Pitch Black Melody" 2001 was the remake of the 90's song with the intro removed and being very dark sounding 13 "Ghosts Intro" leads into track 14 which leads into track 15. All three were once the same track last year. The intro track is basically a small portion of Ghosts of the Past stretched heavily with a program I've used a couple of times called Paul Stretch. very good ambience software if you'd like to check it out. It's free and on mobile as well as all the main OS's I think 14 "Ghosts of the Past" was once pretty minimal but a few years back I added the extra drums you hear. I also added the stretched intro and the next track... 15 "Newbourne Identity" is a purely synth/orion track that was leftover in, you guessed it, 2019. 16 "Connect The Dots" is one of my all-time favorite tracks from 2001 and honestly from ever. I will have a fast heavy version (seriously) on one of the remix albums. It's a nice peaceful ending to the Maladaptive Humanoid album. I hope you enjoy it! |
| The Rundown: 01 "A Smashing Melody" is an intro track with the bass melody kicking in to match the next track. It sounds just like Danny Elfman got ahold of it. 02 "Smashing Through" was originally on a soundtrack in 2002 to a game mod that became a game idea and then the whole idea vanished into thin air. It never was on a real instrumental ep or album until now when I decided I don't know why. Since the EP was once called Anamorphosis and that track changed names to Red 40, there was a book and show "The Anamorphs" and I was the last to know, and I really really liked this track, I chose this name for the whole album. 03 "Hack It Up" was for a soundtrack last year to a game that may or may not be created by an online of mine that I knew and was going to make games with before the Project Warlock OST. The game was called Blood Knight, and the track was originally "Hackman's Theme." If the game does, however, get made... I will let him have these tracks I gave out free anyway here, and just use this album as a small promo for it. 04 "Red 40" is the hyper drum mix of the original Red 40 which was originally titled "Anamorphosis" and the title track of the EP I stuck it on in 2002. It had a little punk rock to it and hyperactivity, which was throught to be caused by Red 40 dye in candy. 05 "Grimmage" is untouched from early 2003 but did once have an intro track "Ominous" that sounded way too much like Nirvana's In Bloom for me to let it pass. One track said (Intro to....) the next track, and the next said (Outtro to...) the previous track. 06 "Clot" is a cool new intro riff I came up with that turns into a heavy rock ballad then a faster techno song. I also recorded this 7 minute beast in 2002. 07 "Keep Me (From Me)" was recorded in late 2001 or early 2002, I forget. It just fits here better than the first albums. That, and I forgot to put it on them! This is a 2021 redux version with some pretty cool drums after a while when they kick in. 08 "Wastelands" was once the intro track to the ep Anamorphosis, which is now track 8, because it does NOT fit the beginning of a CD, even as a mood setter. 09 "Adventures in Commercial Grunge" is kind of like Nirvana's "Rape Me" with a generic beat and generic everything else, as well as a bonus guitar part that makes it sound and feel like a completely different song. 10 "Red 41" is a synth 2021 remix of Red 40. It is very disorganized sounding after a while, though it isn't. I actually like it a lot I just didn't know if anyone else would. 11 "Enigmatrix" is my one and only preview track for Project Warlock II. If there is a sampler there can be more, or you may listen to what the Early Access beta has to offer. If not, the full soundtrack, lasting several hours, can be heard on Project Warlock II. 12 "Forever Rusts" was originally called "No Truth In Forever." It had a full set of lyrics and vocals but they have been lost permanently which is a wonderful thing. I didn't even know what "emo" music was yet but these lyrics were just that. 13 "Clot, Mix 2" is basically Clot with a completely different sound, rerecorded in 2004. 14 "Moonlight Sonata" and Track 15 "The Executioner" were both for Blood Knight and if the game gets made will still be on it, I just didn't know if it would ever get made as the team dissipated for the time being and a new one is needed. I will still use these tracks or make new ones, and they will still be available here free as a little promotional thing. The company will be known as Hypnotic Games. 16 "The Organization" was for the Indiana NORML Podcast. NORML stands for National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. My friend Will, who I've done many musical things with you can find on this website, and who did the voiceovers for 2 of my 3 college games, needed it. I just don't know whether or not they ever used it, as he's no longer part of it I think I remember him saying. Who knows, maybe I was high! I'm Kidding! I guarantee my buddy Will was though! 17 "Sand" is the perfect outtro to this album. The end originally just cut off so I faded it out this time. This was the original title, not "Hold On" which it had been for years before finally I changed it back for this nostalgia set of albums. The original ep "Phenomaly" in 2004, was six tracks. This album now features the original Phenomaly remix "Blue" as well as several tracks from the same timeframe for the "Otherworldly" soundtrack as well as for college projects that were outtakes, such as "The Castle" which was meant to be my Thanatos music back when it was Castle Kingdom. This was just before I finally learned about Orion and started using Piano Roll for a bit. So in other words until around the "Plugged" era this is basically the end of my guitar playing being the major part of any track.
THE RUNDOWN!!! 01 "Phenomaly" has an intro from Pandora's Toolbox, a royalty-free loops library for ACID I've borrowed from on the past 3 releases and finally ended here. There were some eccentric waves on that cd-rom, much weirder in some cases than anything I can use here. This is a catchy guitar track with keyboard laid down later on along with sound effects stretched out. Luckily I was able to save the source files long enough to do track 14, the blue remix of this one. 02 "Vicious Cycle" I love this track. It's eerie but catchy and exactly what I liked to do back then (see "Happy Horror" later on) It has the perfect blend of keyboard and guitar that accompany each other pretty well I say. I'm proud. That is all. 03 "Plague" This raw track is purely guitar. It's catchy too, and gritty, and all that good stuff 04 "Wa/ondering" is one of the very first guitar arrangements I came up with in high school for our band "Noose." The new title replaced the old title "Suffering" because of the original chorus "Now I'm wondering something, what are you wanting, what have you done for me, absolutely nothing." I guess you could call that EMO? I'm not sure, but hey, it was called "Suffering" so there's some whine points. 05 "Heaven" was a complete outtake. I was going to use it on the Otherworldly soundtrack with a different title but honestly just tossed it out with the next one 06 "The Depths" I literally labelled the title of this "Sounds Like Car Commercial" and forgot about it. I honestly think its pretty good and with the last track grouped them up here to be released finally and officially on a numbered album with the rest. 07 "Happy Horror" As I spoke of earlier when I was talking about "Vicious Cycle" instead of being keyboard on guitar though this time its guitar over keyboard. Both catchy ass scary tracks I love it! 08 "Vintage 3005" was made in 2004, hence the one number up stupid title :) I used it in college as a backing track, once slowed down a little, for a video you can find on my No Limits Blackjack/other college projects blog post called "Rats of America PSA" 09 "The Cleansing" was once the final 30th track of chapter 1 on the Otherworldly soundtrack I'll probably never finish anyway, so I didn't want to just toss these songs and not put them anywhere. This is a very pretty guitar song. 10 "Gun In Hand" was track 2 of the new "Pandemonium" for the 4th in the Absynthium series of synth tracks. Nah. If I do ever do that album or continue that series, I'll just have new tracks. I dig it, and it doesn't need 30+ tracks to go with it to finally be out there somewhere. It's minimal, but hey, it's an interlude. 11 "The Bridge" is another track from the Otherworldly soundtrack, which I will go ahead and reveal right now that I'm giving away free at the end of this blog post today. If it's not there yet, refresh upon next entry! 12 "Palace In The Sky" is my 2nd favorite from the Otherworldly soundtrack next to Smashing Through, which now got its own album deal ;) It's all keyboard, like the next track, and its freaking BEAUTIFUL 13 "The Castle" is my second all-keyboard track in this era to be used right after the first. This one wasn't however for Otherworldly but instead a game that also never existed, but in college. Before Thanatos was an idea for Castle Kingdom. I made 2 tracks. I didn't like the other one so its nowhere. 14 "Phenomaly (Blue Mix)" Is a favorite of a lot of people, and previously was released as "BLUE" untouched on the Project Warlock OST |
